Backing up Time 2009 Files

Problem:

Understanding the process of Backing up Time 2009 Files

Solution:

Backing up Time 2009 Files

A Time 2009 file consists of two components.
A SQL database: .mdf & _log.ldf
Supplementary files:
.ar and all non SQL files and documents

In order to backup both components of your Time 2009 file you need to use the Backup function in the Time program.

This is found in the Time program under the Tools menu | Maintenance | Backup / Restore.

The backup function will compress both components of your Time 2009 file into a .tbk file in the location you specify.

You should:
• Keep monthly, weekly and daily backups of your data files. Please test your back up system from time to time to ensure it is operating properly.

• We also recommend keeping a backup copy of your data file in a different storage media or additional hardware resources ready to take over if the main system fails. You would then be able Restore lost data in the event of hardware or software failure.

To create a backup:

1. Open Time program. Open your Time file.

2.  From Tools menu go to Maintenance and then to Backup / Restore

3. In the Backup / Restore dialog, select the backup option

4. Enter the path to the directory where the backup should be saved. Click browse and navigate to it to enter the path automatically.

To restore the Time 2009 file:

1. Open Time program

2. From File menu, go to Restore

3. In the Backup/Restore dialog, select the Restore option

3. Enter the path to the directory where the backup file (.tbk) is saved. Click browse and navigate to it to enter the path automatically.

4. When you restore a backup file (.tbk) the restore function:
• Restores the supplementary files to the location you specify in the Restore to field, and
• Restores the database to the SQL Server.
